Stephanie Plum Novels

Stephanie Plum is a fictional character which author Janet Evanovich writes about frequently. The Stephanie Plum novels are Evanovich's most loved series, and are the main focus of her writing efforts. Evanovich is an experienced writer, who rose to fame in the late 80s writing romance novels. After a while she decided that she wanted to focus on writing action more than romance, and invented the Stephanie Plum character. These novels include both adventure and romance elements, so it allowed Evanovich to explore her writing talents a little more freely. Janet Evanovich's full series of Stephanie Plum books has been featured on many critic's reading lists, and has repeatedly reached the New York Times best seller list. She has aspects of characters like Nancy Drew, but also some aspects of a character like Dirty Harry, both spunky, and deadly, she is able to handle many situations well, but is very average as well. Plum is a female bounty hunter, who hails from Trenton, New Jersey. The character's life mirrors Evanovich's in some ways, as the author also grew up in Trenton. Other similarities include their both attending Douglass Collage. Various other aspects of Plum's life are taken from Evanovich's own life.

Plum's adventures begin in One for the Money, where she becomes a bounty hunter after being laid off from her job as a lingerie buyer. Through a strange set of circumstances she ends up in a new profession that carries deadly consequences. When the series begins, Stephanie is single, her only companion being her hamster, Rex. She is fortunate enough to live near her family, who live several miles away, and she frequently visits them. Plum is of Hungarian and Italian descent, has curly hair, which is either brown or red depending on the story, and has blue eyes. Plum has many friends and colleagues that she crosses paths with, such as her cousin Vinnie, who owns Vincent Plum's Bail Bonds, where she works. This character has a peculiar rumor attached to him about having a romantic relationship with a duck that he keeps locked in his office. Mary Lou is Stephanie's best friend, who she visits from time to time in the novels to discuss their lives. The books were originally inspired by Midnight Run, the movie starring Charles Grodin and Robert DeNiro. This film’s influence can be found in the books frequently. The Stephanie Plum novels have sold very well, and are captivating. And with a movie on the way with prospects such as Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway possibly playing Stephanie Plum, the future looks bright for this sassy bounty hunter.
